My Gardyn

 I love to garden.   Nothing better than working the soil, breaking up lumps, removing rocks that could impede root growth, and providing food for the dinner table.  The only problem is that I live in an area where the growing season is at most 5-6 months, and that's a lot of cold weather crops.  Really warm growing season is maybe 2 months.   I can't grow in my garden year-round.   But I have grown hydroponically for many, many years. When I saw this on Facebook over and over, I started watching customer feedback.  Then I started backchecking the profiles of the people leaving the feedback - deleting the obvious bots, and wow - nearly 100% positive feedback!!  Let's give it a shot!!  I planted these "pods" January 16th.  Today is March 2nd.  (There was only 28 days in February this year) This device is easily going to be able to provide enough salad fixings for my family year-round.  My electric bill has not skyrocketed, I haven't really noticed a difference.  I add water when it tells me to on my phone, do some trimming and thinning, but this thing is AMAZING!!   Now this QR code business is new to me - but if you scan this QR code it should save you $125.  If the QR code doesn't work, you can use CODE  rfdeb92262

Design Wall Monday

I am so happy to have something to share this week.  About a month ago, I received some inspiration from another blogger on Design Wall Monday - hosted by Judy at Patchwork Times .  I immediately fell in love with the star quilt that Kate from Life in Pieces   had put together using the pattern from Country Junktion .  I knew immediately that I could use it as the center of a quilt, and finally use those garden maze blocks that were sitting in my UFO pile.  What do you think ? This is the quilt made from the BOM pattern alone This is that same quilt surrounded by my garden maze blocks I started sewing the garden maze blocks together to see how big of a border I will be needing around the star blocks.  Now to figure out if I should border around each block, or just around the outside of the stars - what do you think?

Design Floor Monday

Thanks to Judy at Patchwork Times , I'm encouraged each week to have something new to show on my design floor (most people have a design wall ..... one day when I grow up, I'll have one too !) This week I'm taking out some UFO's from 2 years ago - I love these blocks, I made plenty of them for a wall hanging, but then I just kept making more and more, until I knew I wanted a bed size quilt.  I was going to lay them out in a 5 by 7 blocks, but since these are 9" blocks - and since the blocks I want to make as a border block are 13" blocks - I thought maybe it'd be easier to do 6 by 6 - so I need to make one more of these.  Gotta figure out how to get this block into my EQ program, because this is the block I want to use as a border I was going to make a bunch of these, all with blue star middles, but with different batiks on the outside color.  Of course, I could do THESE blocks for the main part of the quilt and use the others as a border ....  eit...

Design Wall Monday

  A few weeks ago, Judy from Patchwork Times told her readers that there is NO EXCUSE not to learn how to make socks - with You Tube and the internet, it's almost like having someone sitting next to you teaching you. I've tried socks before - no luck. Maybe because I started with sock weight yarn, and it was too fine for my extra large hands?  Either way, my daughter asked me for a pair of warm sock slippers. Why not? Should be easy. I checked what I hand I on hand, found a pattern that seemed doable, and made these - Now of course, pinks/blues are definately not her colors, so after proving to myself that I could do it, I bought a more "her" color (as close to black as I could find) and whipped up these, in just two nights ! So, don't ever give up - cause if I can figure it out, anyone can !  Next week - back to quilting !  To see what others are working on, check out Judy's blog at Patchwork Times !
