Happenings - Safety Harbor, Florida

 Wow - life is passing by pretty quickly.


Adam is at Marietta - he's loving it so far, he's done his laundry twice, bought himself a bike to get around, and hasn't missed an assignment.  

It was tough to leave him,but I had already planned a getaway with Leenah so the day after we got back from making sure he had everything he needed - we were off to Florida.  If you've never visited Safety Harbor Spa in Safety Harbor, FL, you should go !  It's expensive - but soooo worth it.  


The pools are amazing.  This pool has a bar/food area, and is the only one where kids are allowed.  It was never too crowded that you couldn't lay out either in the water or in a chair, but if you want a chair in a good location, be smart and go down before 10 and leave your towels and stuff on your spot - even if you aren't going to the pool for another hour or so - by noontime most of the seats are taken !!  Bring a book and just relax - life is good !
The indoor hot tubs are amazing - the one on the right has stronger jets - and the outside pool you see through the window is a lap pool for overnight guests and spa visitors only - no kids !!  It's also where classes are held - which I made Leenah go to twice !
This is the meditation pool - its quiet - and its spring water - amazingly relaxing - and hardly ever used.   There is also a plunge pool in the female's locker room - as well as a sauna - neither of which I had time to use this trip, but I will next time !!

Design Wall Monday

I am so happy to have something to share this week.  About a month ago, I received some inspiration from another blogger on Design Wall Monday - hosted by Judy at Patchwork Times .  I immediately fell in love with the star quilt that Kate from Life in Pieces   had put together using the pattern from Country Junktion .  I knew immediately that I could use it as the center of a quilt, and finally use those garden maze blocks that were sitting in my UFO pile.  What do you think ? This is the quilt made from the BOM pattern alone This is that same quilt surrounded by my garden maze blocks I started sewing the garden maze blocks together to see how big of a border I will be needing around the star blocks.  Now to figure out if I should border around each block, or just around the outside of the stars - what do you think?

Design Floor Monday

Thanks to Judy at Patchwork Times , I'm encouraged each week to have something new to show on my design floor (most people have a design wall ..... one day when I grow up, I'll have one too !) This week I'm taking out some UFO's from 2 years ago - I love these blocks, I made plenty of them for a wall hanging, but then I just kept making more and more, until I knew I wanted a bed size quilt.  I was going to lay them out in a 5 by 7 blocks, but since these are 9" blocks - and since the blocks I want to make as a border block are 13" blocks - I thought maybe it'd be easier to do 6 by 6 - so I need to make one more of these.  Gotta figure out how to get this block into my EQ program, because this is the block I want to use as a border I was going to make a bunch of these, all with blue star middles, but with different batiks on the outside color.  Of course, I could do THESE blocks for the main part of the quilt and use the others as a border ....  eit...

Design Wall Monday

  A few weeks ago, Judy from Patchwork Times told her readers that there is NO EXCUSE not to learn how to make socks - with You Tube and the internet, it's almost like having someone sitting next to you teaching you. I've tried socks before - no luck. Maybe because I started with sock weight yarn, and it was too fine for my extra large hands?  Either way, my daughter asked me for a pair of warm sock slippers. Why not? Should be easy. I checked what I hand I on hand, found a pattern that seemed doable, and made these - Now of course, pinks/blues are definately not her colors, so after proving to myself that I could do it, I bought a more "her" color (as close to black as I could find) and whipped up these, in just two nights ! So, don't ever give up - cause if I can figure it out, anyone can !  Next week - back to quilting !  To see what others are working on, check out Judy's blog at Patchwork Times !
